Reimagining SpacesI DESIGN BY IMAGINING MYSELF IN A SPACE - WORKING THROUGH IT AS AN INTERCONNECTED WHOLE, LETTING PRACTICAL PROBLEMS SPARK AESTHETIC IDEAS AND AESTHETIC IDEAS RESHAPE PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS.

BRITTANY ROTTINGHAUS
I grew up in Colorado and went to college without a clear idea of where I was headed, eventually settling into the finance work that had supported me through school. I was good at it, but unfulfilled, and eventually left in search of something more creative.
I spent some time exploring different directions, and design kept finding its way in. I took it upon myself to redesign my church's library simply because I saw a space that wasn't working and could imagine what it could become. Eventually, I decided to pursue landscape architecture, and my husband and I moved to Arizona so I could begin a Master's program.
Get to know me
The idea of having my own design studio had lived quietly in the background for years . . .Though I loved landscape architecture, 2020 prompted us to reevaluate our goals. In 2021, we changed course and moved to North Carolina, where we bought a 1929 house that needed quite a bit of love. I spent the next five years restoring and reimagining both the house and its landscape. I wasn't doing it to build a portfolio or start a business. I did it because I felt responsible for the place and could see what it could become. But through that process—and the response other people had to the spaces I created—I began to recognize that the way I see and shape places might actually be something of value.
The idea of having my own design studio had lived quietly in the background for years—something I imagined might fit into that someday homestead life—but I never quite felt qualified to claim it. Once I began taking the idea seriously, I started to recognize how much of my life had actually been preparing me for it.
As a child, I built elaborate Barbie houses and endlessly rearranged and repainted my bedroom. My mom designed houses as a hobby, so imagining what a place could become was simply part of my childhood. As an adult, I continued redesigning every environment I lived in and assumed everyone did the same. What I'd thought of as simply tinkering with my surroundings was actually a way of thinking I'd been practicing my entire life: noticing what's not working, understanding space visually, seeing possibilities, and imagining how a place could be better.
Brit Haus Design Co. grew out of finally recognizing that instinct as something worth sharing. I love reimagining spaces, solving the things that aren't working, and giving places character, personality, and a stronger sense of themselves.
Design PhilosophyBrit Haus offers residential and commercial interior and landscape design for projects of all sizes, from a focused consultation to a complete design vision. I can help solve a specific problem or reimagine an entire space, showing you not just what it could look like, but how it could feel, function, and come together. For larger projects, continued design support is available to help carry the vision through implementation.

MY APPROACH
BEAUTY AND PURPOSE WORKING TOGETHER
I like to get to know the person before I get to know the project. Before we start talking about what should go where, I want to understand how you live, what you're drawn to, what matters to you, and what you want your surroundings to bring to your life.
Then I turn to the place itself—its character, conditions, challenges, opportunities, and everything it needs to accomplish. My job is to bring those pieces together into one cohesive vision, where every choice supports the whole. To me, that's where elegance comes from: beauty and purpose working together.
How that vision takes shape depends on the project. I use the combination of imagery, plans, drawings, materials, and recommendations that best communicates the idea and gives you a clear direction for bringing it to life. From there, you can take the lead on implementation, or we can continue developing the details where more design support is useful.
I hope to show you not just what you asked for, but possibilities you may not have known to ask for at all.
TELL ME ABOUT YOUR SPACE.
Whether you have a specific problem to solve or a bigger vision taking shape, I’d love to hear about your space and what has you considering a change.
